Rain Protection Shield Assemblies Available For Engine Junction Box And Engine Supervisory System (ESS) Control Panel {7426,7490,7555}

Description of Change: New shield assemblies are available to provide rain protection for the Engine Junction Box and the ESS Control Panel. The shields assemblies are recommended for the above engines in outdoor applications.

Adaptable To: The new 171-7102 Shield Assembly (Engine Junction Box) and 171-7103 Shield Assembly (ESS Control Panel) are available for installation on the above engines in outdoor applications. See the applicable Installation Procedure.

Installation of 171-7102 Shield Assembly (Engine Junction Box)

1. Put the 171-7102 Shield Assembly in position on the engine junction box. Check for a good fit, particularly around the lifting boss plate. See Illustration 1.

2. Remove the new shield assembly and apply 3M Company Contact Adhesive Sealant No. 847, to the seal on the inside of the shield assembly. Spread the sealant evenly over the seal. 3. Put the new shield assembly in position on the engine junction box as shown in Illustration 2.

3. Put the new shield assembly in poisition on the engine junction box as shown in Illustration 2.

4. Remove the former junction box door seal.

5. Starting at the bottom center of the junction box, install the new door seal that is included with the new shield assembly [approximately 2600 mm (102 in) of 5P-8309 Seal]. The new seal must be tightly bent around the corners for a proper fit. Lightly tap the new door seal with a rubber mallet to fully seat the new seal, especially at the corners.

6. Check the operation of the junction box door.

Installation of 171-7103 Shield Assembly (ESS Control Panel)

1. Put the new 171-7103 Shield Assembly in position on the ESS control panel. Check for a good fit. See Illustration 3.

2. Remove the new shield assembly and apply 3M Company Contact Adhesive Sealant No. 847, to the seal on the inside of the shield assembly. Spread the sealant evenly over the seal.

3. Put the new shield assembly in position on the ESS control panel. See Illustration 4.

4. Remove the former ESS control panel door seal.

5. Starting at the bottom center of the ESS control panel, install the new door seal that is included with the new shield assembly [approximately 3500 mm (138 in) of 5P-8309 Seal]. The new seal must be tightly bent around the corners for a proper fit. Lightly tap the new door seal with a rubber mallet to fully seat the new seal, especially at the corners.

6. Check the operation of the ESS control panel door.
