New Pinion Used In Transfer Gear Group For Power Shift Transmissions {3159}

Description of Change: A new pinion is used in the transfer gear group for power shift transmissions on D5B Tractors and 561D Pipelayers. The new pinion does not have the special black coating (surface layer) which was used on the former pinion. Tests have shown that it was possible for this coating to cause pitting and spalling (specific types of damage) of the pinion teeth in some conditions of operation, where tooth loads were very high.

Adaptable As: The new 6T443 Pinion is a direct replacement for the former 9P3971 Pinion, which is canceled. The new pinion is in effect on D5B Tractors with Transmission Serial Numbers 8JA634 and 8GA551 for Transmission Arrangements 3T3394 and 3T3397 respectively, and on 561D Pipelayers with Transmission Serial Number 8HA409 for Transmission Arrangement 3T3395.
