SMCS Code: 7057

Upper Hitch

Upper Hitch Assembly
(1) Bolt and washer. (2) Cover. (3) Bearing sleeve (upper). (4) Cap. (5) Seal. (6) Cup. (7) Shim. (8) Cone. (9) Cup. (10) Bolt and washer. (11) Cone. (12) Cap. (13) Seal. (14) Bearing sleeve (lower). (15) Pin.

(1) Apply 155-0695 Thread Lock Compound to the bolt threads prior to assembly. Torque the bolts to ... 120 ± 7 N·m (90 ± 5 lb ft)

(10) Apply 155-0695 Thread Lock Compound to the bolt threads prior to assembly. Torque the bolts to ... 80 ± 7 N·m (60 ± 5 lb ft)

Upper Hitch Assembly Instructions

1. Lower the temperature of bearing sleeves (3) and (14) to -75 ± 5°C (-103 ± 9°F). Apply 4C-9507 Compound to the bearing sleeve bores prior to assembly. Install the bearing sleeves in the upper hitch of the rear frame.

2. Apply 5P-3931 Anti-Seize Compound to the bearing cup bores prior to assembly.

3. Install lower cap (12) with three bolts and washers (10), equally spaced around the cap.

4. Lower the temperature of bearing cups (6) and (9) to -75 ± 5°C (-103 ± 9°F) and install lower cup (9) in the bearing housing.

5. Drive the cup down to ensure contact with cap (12).

6. Lubricate bearing cones (8) and (11) with oil and install.

7. Install cooled top cup (6) and drive down to ensure light contact pressure on the cones.

8. Install shim (7), upper cap (4), three bolts and washers (10) and tighten.

9. Install the torquing bolt assembly and tighten.

10. Apply a torque wrench to the torquing bolt and read the torque necessary to rotate the cones.

11. If the torque is within a range of 2.3 to 13.6 N·m (20 to 120 lb inch), remove caps (4) and (12) and install seals (5) and (13). Lubricate the sealing lips with the lubricant being sealed. Install caps (4) and (12) with bolts and washers (10) and tighten.

12. If the torque is LESS THAN 2.3 N·m (20 lb inch) or GREATER THAN 13.6 N·m (120 lb inch), remove or add shims to obtain the correct rotating torque. The removal of shims will increase the torque and the addition of shims will cause a torque decrease.

Upper Hitch Pin Tightening Procedure:

1. Install pin assembly (15) through aligned upper hitch bores.

2. Install cover (2) and the two bolts that fasten the cover to the pin. Tighten the bolts.

3. Install bolts (1) and tighten two diagonally opposite bolts to 120 ± 7 N·m (90 ± 5 lb ft).

4. Tighten the two remaining bolts.

5. Repeat the procedure until all bolts are tight.

Lower Hitch

Lower Hitch Assembly
(1) Pin. (2) Spacer. (3) Bolt and washer. (4) Cap. (5) Seal. (6) Shim. (7) Cup. (8) Cone. (9) Cup. (10) Cone. (11) Seal. (12) Cap. (13) Spacer. (14) Plate. (15) Bolt and washer. (16) Bolt and washer. (17) Shim.

(3) Apply 155-0695 Thread Lock Compound to the bolt threads prior to assembly. Torque the bolts to ... 120 ± 7 N·m (90 ± 5 lb ft)

(15) Apply 155-0695 Thread Lock Compound to the bolt threads prior to assembly. Torque the bolts to ... 120 ± 7 N·m (90 ± 5 lb ft)

(16) Apply 4C-9507 Compound to the bolt threads prior to assembly. Torque the bolts to 270 ± 13 N·m (200 ± 10 lb ft)

Lower Hitch Assembly Instructions

1. Apply 5P-3931 Anti-Seize Compound to the bearing cup bores prior to assembly.

NOTE: Use five 8T-4223 Washers on each bolt in the next step.

2. Install lower cap (12) with five bolts and washers (3), equally spaced around the cap.

3. Lower the temperature of bearing cups (7) and (9) to -75 ± 5°C (-103 ± 9°F). Install lower cup (9) in the bearing housing.

4. Drive the cup down to ensure contact with cap (12).

5. Lubricate cones (8) and (10) with oil and install.

6. Install cooled top cup (7) and drive down to ensure light contact pressure on the cones.

7. Install shim (6), upper cap (4), four bolts and washers (3) and tighten diagonally opposite bolts to 120 ± 7 N·m (90 ± 5 lb ft).

8. Install the torquing bolt assembly and tighten.

9. Apply a torque wrench to the torquing bolt and read the torque necessary to rotate the cones.

10. If torque is within a range of 11.3 to 39.6 N·m (8.3 to 29.1 lb ft), remove caps (4) and (12) and install seals (5) and (11). Lubricate the sealing lips with the lubricant being sealed. Install caps (4) and (12) with bolts and washers (3) and tighten.

11. If torque is LESS THAN 11.3 N·m (8.3 lb ft) or GREATER THAN 39.6 N·m (29.1 lb ft), remove or add shims to obtain the correct rotating torque. The removal of shims will increase the torque and the addition of shims will cause a torque decrease.

Lower Hitch Pin Tightening Procedure:

1. Install pin (1) and spacers (2) and (13).

2. Install lower plate (14), four bolts (16) and the washers. Tighten to 70 ± 35 N·m (50 ± 25 lb ft).

3. Measure gap 360° around between the frame and plate (14).

4. Install shim (17) of average measured thickness under the plate.

5. Install all the bolts and tighten.
