New Cylinder Head Injector Sleeve Used In Both Mechanical Unit Injection (MUI) And Hydraulic Electronic Unit Injection (HEUI) Engines{1125}

Usage:

3114 (5EF, 1ZG, 4KR) Industrial;
3114 (6AF, 5JG) Generator Set;
3116 (2WG, 4PG, 5EN, 2MR) Industrial;
3116 (4KG, 1SK) Marine;
3116 (2SG, 1NJ) Generator Set;
3126 (8NM) Marine Engines

Description of Change: A new injector sleeve has been released for use in above commercial engines. The new injector sleeve has been released to provide parts commonality between products and to eliminate the possibility of mixing parts in the MUI and HEUI engines. Previously, because MUI and HEUI injector sleeves were so close to being the same, both in appearance and dimensions, it was possible to mix parts and use MUI sleeves in HEUI engines. The use of the MUI sleeves in a HEUI engine can result in improper injector sealing which then allows combustion gases to enter the fuel system. Combustion gases in the fuel system may result in low power problems and improper engine operation.

An additional change was incorporated in the new injector sleeve. The lower portion of the sleeve, which acts as a collecting chamber for the fuel, had its diameter increased. The increased diameter allows more fuel flow around the injector and therefore reduces the possibility of sleeve pitting. Injector sleeve pitting can occur when small amounts of air are introduced into a fuel system either through leaks or excessive turbulence.

The injector sleeves used in these engines are not marked with part numbers and are similar in appearance. The following illustrations and dimensions will allow the identification of injector sleeves that are in dealer stock, or the injector sleeves that may be in a mechanics tool box.

Illustration 1 and the chart identify the dimensions of the former injector sleeves. Illustration 2 and the chart identify the dimensions of the new injector sleeve.

NOTE: The current injector sleeve can be identified by viewing the top of the sleeve and noting that there is a chamfer. See Illustration 2 for the chamfer (C) location. The former sleeves do not have this chamfer.

Adaptable To: The new 119-3061 Injector Sleeve is a direct replacement for the former 7W-5749, 101-3254, and 119-3086 Injector Sleeves in all applications. The former injector sleeves are canceled.
