REMAN 0R-1301 DUO-CONE SEAL PLATE MAY APPEAR PHYSICALLY DIFFERENT THAN 1530195/">153-0195 PLATE
Announcement
Dealers have been mistakenly returning the 0R1301 Duo-Cone Plate under Parts Stock claims complaining of improper machining on a surface flange. Reman will sometimes grind down this flange to remove nicks/dings/dents and bring the surface finish back to like new condition. The material that is removed is in a non-critical area and will not effect the serviceability of this plate. A similar plate used on current production models such as the 777F, does not even include this flange. A comparison of two designs will highlight the difference and demonstrate why this salvage operation is acceptable.
The 777D design uses the 1530195/">153-0195 plate with the original flange. This plate is used in many other OHT Duo-Cone Plate applications for both the front and rear wheels. In the 777D wheel group design, the brake hub is a separate component that is assembled prior to the Duo-Cone Plate. The Duo-Cone Plate with the flange (shown in red in Figure 2) extending into the center was not designed to have assembly clearance for the outer diameter brake hub splines. The flange itself serves no sealing or locating function.
In the 777F design the brake hub and wheel housing are the same casting. This design uses a 256-7774 plate which is similar to the 1530195/">153-0195 except it does not include the flange in question (See Figures 3 & 4). This plate was designed to allow assembly clearance for the outer diameter brake hub splines. The flange has been removed in this design as it interfered with assembly in this newer integrated brake hub design and because it serves no sealing or locating function.
Despite any difference in appearance, the Reman 0R1301 can be utilized in any application calling for the 1530195 Duo-Cone Plate. This deviation from new is allowable because the flange that is ground down is not critical to the function of this plate which is providing the sealing pressure on the Duo-Cone Seals.
