Usage:
A. Oscillating Pivot Field Check
This test involves sudden starting and stopping of the machine. Do not run engine at full throttle. |
1. Block the front drum securely on both sides. This will hold the front frame still while checking for excessive movement at the steer pivot.
2. Start machine. Run engine at 1/2throttle.
3. Nudge propel lever forward slightly to push the rear frame tight against the pivot.
4. Shut the engine off.
5. Attach a dial indicator between the front and rear frames as illustrated.
6. Set dial indicator to zero.
7. Start machine. Run engine at 1/2throttle.
8. Move propel lever forward slightly, then shift quickly into reverse.
9. Shut the engine off.
10. Check dial indicator for excessive movement at the pivot.
11. If pivot movement is greater than 0.76 mm (0.030 in.), the steer pivot should be disassembled. Bushings and any other worn or damaged components should be replaced.
B. Steer Pivot Field Check
1. Park the machine on a hard, level surface. Shut engine off and set the emergency/parking brake.
2. Attach a dial indicator between the front and rear frames as illustrated.
3. Set dial indicator to zero.
4. Place a hydraulic jack under the rear frame, at the pivot assembly as illustrated.
5. Raise jack and note reading on dial indicator.
6. If pivot movement is greater than 0.76 mm (0.030 in.), the steer pivot should be disassembled. Bushings and any other worn or damaged components should be replaced.
