Usage:
3606, 3608, 3612, 3616 Engines
Earlier 3600 Engines included a cylinder liner design similar to other Caterpillar engines. A change was made in 1987, effective with 8RB323, 6MC243, 9RC27 and 1PD22, to provide "flange-cooled liners." The flange-cooled liner design provides increased cooling at the top ring turnaround zone of the liner. The increased cooling is required for locomotive and residual fueled applications. The flange-cooled liner design is more complex because O-ring seals are used to seal the liner water supply. Starting with serial numbers 8RB359, 6MC290, 9RC71 and 1PD39 the "standard" liner design will be included to simplify the engine and improve reliability. Flange-cooled liners will continue to be available for locomotive and residual fueled applications.
Consult the SEGO Product Analyst, phone (309) 578-6986, or Subsidiary Service Support to adapt a liner change to the engine, since cooling system and cylinder head compatibility must be confirmed.
