Be Sure To Tighten Fuel Injection Line Clamps To The Correct Torque

Usage:

3200, 3300, 3400 Families Of Engines

After repairs, some fuel injection line clamps are being installed with incorrect torque. These clamps fasten two or more fuel injection lines together to help reduce vibration. See the illustration. It is important to use the correct tightening torque to prevent distortion of the clamps and to assure the clamps stay tight. Current production of the above engines uses metal-to-metal clamps. The recommended torque for these clamps is 2.3 N·m (20 lb in). Over-tightening a metal-to-metal clamp can result in distorting the clamp and decreasing the clamping ability. Do not reuse distorted metal-to-metal clamps.

NOTE: The 6V4980 Torque Screwdriver Tool Group is available for applying the correct torque. This tool can be used to tighten small fasteners up to 4 N·m (3 lb ft).

Earlier engines used clamps with rubber dampers. The recommended torque for these clamps is 10 N·m (8 lb ft).
