3400 Family Of Engines
Description of Change: A new connecting rod bearing is now used in the 3400 Family of Engines. This bearing uses a stronger aluminum alloy that is more resistant to cavitation erosion and to aluminum fatigue than the former bearing.
Adaptable To: The new bearing is effective with the following serial numbers.
The new 9Y9497 Bearing can be used as a direct replacement for the former 1W7524 Bearing in the 3400 Family of Engines. This includes all these engines built after 1975. The bearing part number is stamped on the backside.
Bearing kits that have six standard size bearings are available, as well as undersize bearing kits and undersize bearings. See illustration.
