Longer Bolts Give More Life To Gaskets Between Water Cooled Aftercooler Housings

Usage:

3516 Vehicular Engines (28Z)

Description of Change: The 3516 Vehicular Engines (28Z) for use in OEM and other equipment use a water cooled aftercooler with four housings. The bolts that fasten these housings to each other have been changed to a longer bolt. See illustration. The longer bolts stretch more when tightened to the standard torque and maintain a tighter gasket joint.

To accommodate the longer bolts without making the threaded holes deeper, spacers are used under all the new bolts except at the two locations shown under the cover on top of the rear housing. The housing flange at these two locations is thicker. The spacers replace the former washers at all the flange connections except the two under the cover.

Location of new bolts in the four housings of the aftercooler. Note that two of the new bolts still require the same washers as used before.

Adaptable To: The 24-2A4639 Bolts and 22-7W8106 Spacers can be used as direct replacements for the former 1T0720 Bolts and 5M2894 Washers in the 1W7568 Water Aftercooler Group.
