Introduction

The problem that is identified below does not have a known permanent solution. Until a permanent solution is found, use the temporary solution that is identified below.

Problem

The engine ECM can become unresponsive with the following conditions:

  • The keyswitch is left to ON and the voltage drops below 6 VDC

  • The ECM resets during normal operating conditions

Solution

------ WARNING! ------

Do not operate or work on this product unless you have read and understood the instruction and warnings in the relevant Operation and Maintenance Manuals and relevant service literature. Failure to follow the instructions or heed the warnings could result in injury or death. Proper care is your responsibility.

If a customer experiences a no start condition, use the procedure below.

  1. Connect to the engine A6:E2 ECM using Cat® Electronic Technician (ET).

  2. Confirm that the ECM is able to connect to Cat ET.

  3. If unable to connect to the engine ECM, connect to the ECM using WINFLASH. Verify the ECM states "Blank ECM".

  4. If the ECM is listed as "Blank ECM", replace the ECM with the same part number.
