NOTICE

  1. Use Tooling (E) and a suitable press to install pump shaft (13) into bearing assembly (17).

  2. Install bearing cone (21) on the pump shaft.

  3. Install spacer (20) and bearing cups (19) on the pump shaft.

  4. Install bearing cone (18) on the pump shaft.

    The splined end of the pump shaft is marked to indicate either RH threads or LH threads on pump shaft (13).

  5. Install pump shaft (13) into Tooling (C). Use Tooling (D) to tighten bearing locknut (16).

    1. Tighten bearing locknut (16) to a torque of 300 ± 20 N·m (221 ± 15 lb ft).

      Note: The torque wrench must be 90 degrees to Tooling (D).

  6. Install set screws (15) and

    1. Tighten set screws (15) to a torque of 5 ± 1 N·m (44 ± 9 lb in) in a 180° pattern.

    2. Retighten set screws (15) to a final torque of 9.5 ± 0.3 N·m (84 ± 3 lb in).

  7. Use Tooling (A) and a suitable press to install seal (10). No hand installation allowed. Install seal (10) dry and within 2 minutes of removal from the shipping tube.

    Note: Do not damage the wear surfaces of the carbon ring or the ceramic ring on ceramic seal (14). Do not touch the wear surfaces of the carbon ring or the ceramic ring on ceramic seal (14). Install ceramic seal (14) with the smoothest face of the ring toward the carbon seal.

  8. Lubricate pump shaft (13) with clean engine oil. Install the pump shaft in bearing housing (9).

  9. Rotate bearing housing (9) to install ceramic seal (14).

  10. Apply Tooling (F) to the outside diameter of the ceramic seal (14). Use Tooling (G) and hand pressure to install ceramic seal (14) into the bearing housing and the shaft. Installed height should be 9.9 ± 0.38 mm (0.39 ± 0.015 inch).

  11. Rotate bearing housing (9) to install retainer (11).

  12. Install retainer (11) and bolts (12).

    1. Tighten bolts (12) to a torque of 12 ± 3 N·m (106 ± 27 lb in).

  13. Lubricate pump shaft (13) on bearing housing (9) with clean engine oil.

  14. Position impeller (8) on pump shaft (13).

  15. Use Tooling (A) and a suitable press to install impeller (8) onto pump shaft (13). Install impeller (8) flush to the end of pump shaft (13). Pump shaft (13) not shown.

  16. Use Tooling (F) to lubricate O-ring seal (6) and install O-ring seal (6) .

  17. Position pump housing (7) and install bolts (5).

  18. Install O-ring (3) and plug (4) into water pump group (1).

  19. Install filter (2) into water pump group (1).

End By:

  1. Install the water pump.
