New Air Cleaner Groups And Valve Mechanism Cover Group Used

Usage:

3208 Marine Engines (1Z) With Turbochargers And Aftercoolers

Reference: Service Magazine, October 1, 1984, Page 11, Improved Oil Separator Elements Have Longer Service Life.

Description of Change: New air cleaner groups have replaced the air inlet filter group and oil (fumes) separator group which have been canceled. A crankcase breather is now used on 3208 Marine Engines equipped with turbochargers and aftercoolers. The crankcase breather replaces the PCV valves and oil separator group.

The former system was large and often interferred with other components. Also, the elements in the oil separator could become plugged and require maintenance between service intervals. See the reference article.

Adaptable As: The new 7W1157 and 7W2270 Air Cleaner Groups are in effect on 3208 Marine Engines (1Z4622) and are adaptable to all earlier engines. The 7W1157 and 7W2270 Air Cleaner Groups replace the 4W2579 Air Inlet Filter Group and 2W8473 Oil (Fumes) Separator Group which have been canceled. The 7W2270 Air Cleaner Group is used on 3208 Marine Engines (1Z) with commercial ratings. Each of the new air cleaner groups requires use of the 7W1158 Valve Mechanism Cover Group.

The parts needed to adapt the new air cleaner groups to earlier engines are shown in the chart. The illustrations show the new air cleaner group on the engine.
