There have been reported leaks around the 388-0536 Gasket. The leaks can be identified by an accumulation of dust around the cylinder head.

An improved manufacturing process has been introduced to help prevent leaks around the 388-0536 Gasket.

If an oil leak is identified around the 388-0536 Gasket, perform the following procedure:

  1. Clean the engine in the area where the leak has been identified.

Note: Caution must be used to prevent electrical components from being damaged by excessive water when the engine is cleaned. Pressure washers and steam cleaners must not be directed at any electrical connectors or the junction of cables into the rear of the connectors.

  2. Operate the engine and monitor the area of the suspected leak.

  3. Attempt to identify the location of the leak on the 388-0536 Gasket. Record with photographs.

Note: The oil may travel along the seal, so the leak location may not be where the oil accumulates.

  4. Stop the engine.

  5. Ensure that the base cover bolts are tightened to the correct torque. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, Valve Mechanism Cover Base - Remove and Install for the correct torque value.

  6. Continue to operate the engine under normal operating conditions. Monitor the area of the suspected leak.

  7. If the leak persists, install a replacement 388-0536 Gasket. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, Valve Mechanism Cover Base - Remove and Install for the correct procedure.

  8. Attach the photographs to the claim story.
