- Site survey
- Equipment sizing
- Site delivery and installation
- An equipment qualification test
The deployment pages allow the user to do the following:
- Create sites
- Input sizing requirements
- Track and report equipment status
There are two main elements to the deployment management pages: sites and ESSs. Each element contains a list view and an edit page for the listed items. The following sections outline the purposes and use of these pages.

Example of "Site List" page |
The "Site List" page displays a list of all sites that have been created by the dealer. This page shows key information on sites to help deployment/project managers view the status of deployment.

The "Edit Site Info" page allows the user to create site records for all sites that have been targeted for deployment by the consumer.
To create a site entry, click the "New" button from the "Site List" page seen in Illustration 1. Selecting this button will navigate the user to the "Edit Site Info" page.
Note: Parameters required to save the record will be highlighted in blue.
The required parameters to save a site record are typically captured as part of the site survey. These parameters include the following:
Site Name - The name of the site as dictated by the client.
Site Type - Classifies the site with respect to grid availability and the expected duty cycle. There are two options: "On Grid SD (Standard Duty)" and "On Grid HD (Heavy Duty)".
Approved ESS Model - The result of the site survey inputs into the ESS sizing tool. This result is used as a validation when selecting an ESS serial number for a site.
Client - The client that owns or manages the site (the customer).
Region - The region where the site is located.
Cluster - The cluster or subregion where the site is located.
Latitude - The latitude of the site in "right justified decimal" form.
Longitude - The longitude of the site in "right justified decimal" form.
Some additional fields are available and can be added to site records. These parameters include the following:
Site Address - The address of the site as dictated by the client.
Reference Number - Any reference number.
PO Number - Any PO number associated with the site.
Client Site ID - The identification number of the site as dictated by the client.
Altitude - The altitude of the site (in meters).
Hub Site - This field defines if the site is a central site that connects other sites. Also referred to as a nodal site. Typically these sites have a higher priority for alarms since there are other sites linked to the hub site.
DG Installed - This field defines if there is a diesel generator installed at the site that will be integrated with the Energy Storage System.
DG Manufacturer, Model, and Capacity - These fields are used to specify the diesel generator manufacturer, model, and capacity.
BTS Installed - The make and model of the BTS installed at the site.
Rectifier Brand, Model, Module Type - Lists the rectifier brand/model and replacement module type.
Viewing and Editing an Existing Site

Typical example of the ESS list |
ESSs will be automatically ported into the dealer pages when shipped from the production facility. The ESS list displays a list of all ESSs and respective statuses. The list can be filtered by systems in the following states:
- At the CAT dealer
- In Deployment
- In Service
- Out of Service
Illustration 5 | g06014536 |
The customer is required to link the ESS to a site once the system is ready to be shipped. Linking the ESS to a site is done through the "Site List" page. The user can select the desired site that the ESS will be shipped to and installed from this page.
The "Approved CAT Model" dictates the required size ESS to be installed at a given site.
Note: Installing an undersized ESS at a site puts the customer at risk for downtime. The user is required to select a model that matches the "Approved CAT Model".
To link or add an ESS to a site, click the drop-down arrow below the "Select ESS for Site" parameter. The drop-down list displays available ESS serial numbers.
Press "Add Battery" once the desired ESS is selected.
A confirmation dialog will appear confirming the addition of the ESS to the site. The ESS will automatically move into the "In Deployment" status. The ESS serial number and model will appear on the site entry page.
There are four basic statuses that are available for an ESS. The statuses are the following:
At CAT Dealer - Batteries will be in this status while units are shipped from the production facility and received at the dealer.
In Deployment - This status represents any system that has been shipped from the dealer but not yet tested at the site. This status is active during the entire deployment phase including shipment from the dealer and installation at the site.
In Service - The system has gone through the installation and commissioning steps and is functioning normally.
Out of Service - The system has been retired.

To add a status, select "Change Status". Select a status from the drop-down menu and input the effective date. Once the information is entered, click the "Add Status" button to save the record. Status updates should be recorded in a timely manner to ensure accurate reporting.

Updating Client Organization Data
A site record must be tied to a client and cluster (subregion). The ESS IQ system uses the following organization structure for sites:
Site Organizational Structure |
---|
Dealer |
Client |
Country |
Region |
Cluster |
The dealer and client are automatically imported into the ESS IQ system when the single sign-on process is used through Caterpillar.
The "Organization" page allows the user to add new countries, regions, and clusters (subregions). These specifications are used to assign a geographic location to the dealer and client.
Illustration 7 | g06014728 |
A new entry line will appear at the top of the page by pressing the "Add Country" button. The new entry line allows the user to add a country, region, and cluster.
Illustration 8 | g06014775 |
To add a region, mouse over the country in the appropriate dealer or client and select "Add Region".
To add a cluster, mouse over the region in the appropriate country and click "Add Cluster".
