NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat® products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.


  1. Drain the engine oil and filter. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Engine Oil and Filter - Change" for the proper draining and filling procedures.

  2. Drain the coolant. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Cooling System Coolant (ELC) - Change" for the correct draining and filling procedures.

  1. Use Tooling (A) to remove engine oil filter (1).

  2. Disconnect hose assembly (3), hose assembly (5), elbow assembly (2), and elbow assembly (6).

  3. Remove hollow stud (4).

  4. Remove bolts (8) and oil filter base (7).

  5. Remove plug (9).

  6. Remove plug (12), spring (11), and valve plunger (10).

  7. Remove dust cap (15), fluid sampling valve (14), and adapter assembly (13).

Installation Procedure

  1. Install oil filter base (7) in the reverse order of removal.

    1. Apply Tooling (B) to the top 20.00 ± 0.80 mm (0.787 ± 0.032 inch) of hollow stud (4). Tighten hollow stud (4) to a torque of 68 ± 7 N·m (50 ± 52 lb ft).

    2. Apply clean engine oil to the seal of engine oil filter (1).
