NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat® products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.


  1. Drain the engine oil and filter. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Engine Oil and Filter - Change" for the proper draining and filling procedures.

  2. Drain the coolant. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Cooling System Coolant (ELC) - Change" for the correct draining and filling procedures.

  1. Use Tooling (A) to remove engine oil filter (1).

  2. Remove bolt (2), clips (3), and elbow (5). Disconnect hose assembly (4).

  3. Remove nut (8), nut (9), nut (10), clips (6), clips (11), and bracket (7).

  4. Remove bolts (12), studs (13), engine oil filter base (14), and the gasket.

  5. Remove plugs (15), plugs (16), plugs (17), adapter assembly (18), and hollow stud (19).

  6. Remove plugs (20), springs (21), and bypass valves (22).

Installation Procedure

  1. Install engine oil filter base (14) in the reverse order of removal.

    1. Apply Tooling (B) to the top 20.00 ± 0.80 mm (0.787 ± 0.032 inch) of hollow stud (19). Tighten hollow stud (19) to a torque of 68 ± 7 N·m (50 ± 52 lb ft).

    2. Tighten studs (13) and bolts (12) in numerical sequence shown in illustration 7 to a torque of 14 ± 3.5 N·m (124 ± 31 lb in). Tighten studs (13) and bolts (12) to a final torque of 28 ± 7 N·m (248 ± 62 lb in).

    3. Apply clean engine oil to the seal of engine oil filter (1).
