Cylinders 1 Through 14

  1. Remove the heat shield for the cylinder being serviced.

  1. Remove five bolts (1) and the washers. Remove valve cover (2) .

  1. Remove seal (3) from valve cover (2) .

Cylinders 15 and 16

  1. Remove shields (4), (5), and (6) .

  1. Remove cover (7) and cover (8) .

    Note: The following steps apply to Cylinder 15.

  1. Remove covers (9) and (10) .

  1. Remove guard (11) .

    Note: The following steps apply to Cylinder 16.

  1. Remove cover (12) .

  1. Remove covers (14) and (15) .

  1. Remove shield (16) .

  1. Repeat Steps 2 and 3 in "Cylinders 1 Through 14" to remove the valve covers for cylinders 15 and 16.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install valve cover (2) in the reverse order of removal.

    1. Tighten bolts (1) to a torque of 28 ± 7 N·m (248 ± 62 lb in).

    1. Apply Tooling (A) to the hardware for the exhaust shields prior to installation.
