Cat® Command For Hauling Caterpillar

MID 039 - CID 3244 - FMI 06

Usage:

- AT6
Conditions Which Generate This Code:

MID 039 - Machine Control Module (MCM)

CID 3244 - Fire Suppression Relay

FMI 06 - Current Above Normal

MID 039 CID 3244 FMI 06 appears when the Input/Output Module (I/O Module) has determined the Remote Fire Suppression Activation Relay current is above normal.

NOTICE

Before performing any testing or diagnosis of the remote fire suppression activation, disconnect the fire suppression system from the autonomy cabinet. Failure to do so may result in inadvertent activation of the fire suppression system.

Test Step 1. CHECK THE RELAY

  1. Turn the keyswitch and battery disconnect switch to the ON position.

  2. Observe the status of the diagnostic code.

  3. Disconnect the Remote Fire Suppression Activation Relay (R9) from the Relay Panel.

Expected Result:

CID 3244 FMI 06 changes to CID 3244 FMI 05 when the relay is disconnected.

Results:

  • NO - CID 3244 FMI 06 remains active. Proceed to Test Step 2.

  • YES - CID 3244 FMI 06 changes to CID 3244 FMI 05 when the relay is disconnected. The circuit is correct.

Repair: The relay has failed. Repeat this Test Step to verify that the relay has failed. Replace the relay.

    STOP

Test Step 2. CHECK THE ENERGIZE CIRCUIT OF THE RELAY FOR A SHORT TO GROUND

  1. Turn the keyswitch and battery disconnect switch to the OFF position.

  2. The relay remains disconnected from the machine harness.

  3. Disconnect the machine harness connectors J1 and J2 from the Input/Output Module (I/O Module).

  4. At the machine harness connector J1 for the I/O Module, measure the resistance from contact J1-66 (wire 811-GY(Grey)) to all J1 and J2 contacts that are connected to ground or to frame ground.

Expected Result:

The resistance measurement is greater than 5000 ohms.

Results:

  • OK - The resistance measurement is greater than 5000 ohms. The machine harness is correct. Proceed to Test Step 3.

  • NOT OK - The resistance is not greater than 5000 ohms. The resistance measurement is not correct. There is a short in the machine harness. The short is between J1-66 (wire 811-GY(Grey)) and one of the grounded wires in the machine harness.

Repair: Repair the machine harness or replace the machine harness.

    STOP

Test Step 3. CHECK IF THE DIAGNOSTIC CODE IS STILL ACTIVE

  1. The keyswitch and battery disconnect switch remain in the OFF position.

  2. Inspect the contacts of the harness connectors that are used in the relay circuit. Ensure that the contacts are secure. Clean all of the contacts in the harness connectors.

  3. Reconnect all harness connectors.

  4. Turn the disconnect switch and the keyswitch to the ON position.

  5. Operate the machine.

  6. Determine if the diagnostic code is active.

Expected Result:

The diagnostic code is active.

Results:

  • YES - CID 3244 FMI 06 is active.

Repair: Repeat this procedure. If the problem remains, replace the relay (R9). After the relay is replaced, repeat this Test Step again. If the diagnostic code is still active, the I/O Module may be faulty. However, I/O Module failure is unlikely. Exit this procedure and perform this procedure again. If the cause of the diagnostic code is not found, replace the ECM. Refer to Testing and Adjusting, KENR8394, "Electronic Control Module (ECM) – Replace".

    STOP

  • NO - CID 3244 FMI 06 is not active. The problem does not exist at this time.

Repair: The initial diagnostic code was probably caused by a poor electrical connection or a short at one of the harness connectors that was disconnected and reconnected. Resume normal machine operation.

    STOP
