Air Cleaner Housing - Remove and Install

Usage:

C4.4 NRP

Removal Procedure


NOTICE

Keep all parts clean from contaminants.

Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.


  1. The engine can start automatically. Ensure that the power supply is isolated before any service or repairs is performed.

  2. Loosen hose clamp (5) and hose clamp (6). Remove hose assembly (7) from air cleaner (1) and the turbocharger.

  3. Remove bolts (2).

  4. Remove air cleaner housing (1) from the mounting bracket.

  5. If necessary, loosen hose clamp (8) and remove rain cap (3).

  6. If necessary, remove air cleaner service indicator (4).

  7. If necessary, follow Step 2.d through Step 2.b in order to remove bracket (9).

    1. Remove the bolt from clip (10).

    2. Remove bolts (11) from crankcase breather (11). Support the crankcase breather.

    3. Cut cable straps (13) and cable straps (17).

    4. Remove bolts (15) and remove clamp (16).

    5. Remove bolts (14) from bracket (9). Remove the bracket from the engine.

Installation Procedure

  1. Ensure that the air cleaner housing assembly and bracket is clean and free from damage or wear. Replace any component that is worn or damaged.

  2. If necessary, follow Step 2.a through Step 2.e in order to install bracket (9).

    1. Position bracket (9) onto the engine. install bolts (14) to the bracket. Tighten the bolts to a torque of 44 N·m (32 lb ft).

    2. Position crankcase breather (11) onto bracket (9). Install bolts (11) to the crankcase breather. Tighten the bolts to a torque of 22 N·m (195 lb in).

    3. Position clip (10) onto bracket (9). Install the bolt. Tighten the bolts to a torque of 22 N·m (195 lb in). Ensure that the clip is not strained as the bolt is tightened.

    4. Position clamp (16) onto bracket (9). Install bolts (15) and tighten the bolts to a torque of 44 N·m (32 lb ft).

    5. Install new cable straps (13) and new cable straps (17).

      Note: Ensure that the cable straps meet Original Equipment Manufacture (OEM) specifications.

  3. If necessary, install rain cap (3) to air cleaner housing (1). Tighten hose clamp (8) to a torque of 7 N·m (62 lb in).

  4. If necessary, install air cleaner service indicator (4). securely tighten air cleaner service indicator.

  5. Position air cleaner housing (1) onto mounting bracket. Install bolts (2) and tighten the bolts to a torque of 22 N·m (195 lb in).

  6. Install hose assembly (7) to air cleaner (1) and the turbocharger.

  7. Tighten hose clamp (5) and hose clamp (6) to a torque of 7 N·m (62 lb in).

  8. If necessary, install a new air cleaner element to air cleaner housing (1). Refer to the Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Engine Air Cleaner Element (Single Element) - Inspect/Clean/Replace" for the correct procedure.
