Service Magazine SEPD1733, 06 February 2014, "A New Air Intake Hose Between the Air Cleaner and the Turbocharger is Now Available for Certain Excavators". Disregard this article. Refer to the information that follows.

The air intake hose between the air cleaner and the turbocharger air inlet is improved for the machines listed above. The new air intake hose has a more robust design and has a longer service life than the existing hose.

Note: If you need to replace either the existing air intake hose or the existing tube assembly, use the new replacement parts listed in Table 1.

Procedure to Install New Parts for 345C, 345D, and 349D Excavators

  1. Open the engine hood.

    (1) 8T-4987 Hose Clamp

    (2) 8T-4139 Bolt

    (3) 5P-1076 Hard Washer

    (4) 233-1262 Hose

    (5) 233-1257 Tube As

  1. Remove three 8T-4987 Hose Clamps (1), two 8T-4139 Bolts (2), and two 5P-1076 Hard Washers (3) in order to remove existing air intake hose (4), and existing tube assembly (5). Refer to Illustration 1.

    Note: The two bolts (2) and two hard washers (3) will be reused in Step 3.

    (6) 433-3956 Pipe As

    (7) 233-1263 Hose

  1. Install the new 433-3956 Pipe As (6) onto the frame by reusing two bolts (2), and two hard washers (3). Refer to Illustration 2.

  1. Insert one end of the new pipe assembly (6) into existing hose (7). Refer to Illustration 2.

  1. Install a new 8T-4987 Hose Clamp (1) as shown in Illustration 2. Tighten the hose clamp.

    (8) 425-9619 Hose

  1. Insert one end of the new 425-9619 Hose (8) over the open end of the new pipe assembly (6). Refer to Illustration 3.

    Note: Make sure that the edge of hose (8) is even with the line that is marked in two places on the circumference of pipe assembly (6) .

  1. Install one new 8T-4987 Hose Clamp (1) as shown in Illustration 3. Tighten the hose clamp.

    Note: Make sure that hose clamp (1) is installed 3 ± 1.0 mm (0.1 ± 0.04 inch) from the edge of hose 8.

  1. Insert the other end of hose (8) into the inlet side of the turbocharger. Refer to Illustration 4.

    Note: Make sure that hose (8) is inserted until the hose edge reaches to the edge of turbocharger before clamping.

  1. Install one new 8T-4987 Hose Clamp (1) as shown in Illustration 4. Tighten the hose clamp.

    Note: Make sure that hose clamp (1) is installed 3 ± 1.0 mm (0.1 ± 0.04 inch) from the edge of hose (8) .

Procedure to Install New Parts for 365C and 374D Excavators

  1. Open the engine hood and remove the cover above the air intake hose.

    (1) 8T-4988 Hose Clamp

    (2) 233-1262 Hose

  1. Remove two 8T-4988 Hose Clamps (1) in order to remove the existing hose (2). Refer to Illustration 5.

    (4) 233-1170 Tube As

  1. Insert one end of the new 425-9607 Hose (3) into the open end of existing 233-1170 Tube As (4). Refer to Illustration 6.

  1. Install one new 8T-4988 Hose Clamp (1) as shown in Illustration 6. Tighten the hose clamp.

  1. Insert the other end of 425-9607 Hose (3) even with the line marked on the inlet side of the turbocharger.

    Note: Make sure that hose (3) is inserted until the hose edge reaches to the edge of turbocharger before clamping.

  1. Install one new 8T-4987 Hose Clamp (1) as shown in Illustration 7. Tighten the hose clamp.

    Note: Make sure that hose clamp (1) is installed 6 ± 1.0 mm (0.2 ± 0.04 inch) from the edge hose (3) .
