The Letter "I" Now Used In Part Numbers

Usage:

The letter "I" is now used in part numbers. Formerly, Caterpillar did not use the letter "I" in part numbers. When reading service publications dated prior to December 1991, be very careful when checking part numbers. Some service publications have been published using "I" in part numbers. Use care not to mistake a capitol "I" in a part number for the number 1. For example, there was very little difference between the part numbers 6I0273 and 610273.

The process has been changed so that when a capital "I " is used in a part number in a service publication, it will appear as "I". An example is the 6I0273 Air Filter, formerly the 6I0273 Air Filter. In all uses, other than part numbers, the capital "I" will not change.

An example of the new and former use of a capital "I" in a part number in a service publication title follows:

New...I 6 0273
Former... 6I0273
