Description of Change: Removal of the zinc anode is recommended to eliminate damage to the pump shaft on the auxiliary sea water pump.
Adaptable To:
Illustration 1 | g03336948 |
On certain C32 Marine engines built with engine mounted heat exchangers, removal of the zinc anode from the 7E-5076 Zinc Plug (2), installed in the 296-7616 Tube As (1) on the 296-7618 Auxiliary Sea Water Lines Gp is recommended. When improperly maintained this zinc anode can fall into the discharge side of the 297-3168 Auxiliary Sea Water Pump Gp. The detached anode can cause catastrophic failure of the pump shaft.
The existing 5B-9169 Drain Plug of the 7E-5076 Zinc Plug can be reused after the 5B-9651 Zinc Plug is removed. If removal of the 5B-9651 Zinc Plug from the 7E-5076 Zinc Plug cannot be accomplished, replace the 7E-5076 Zinc Plug with a new 5B-9169 Drain Plug .
Note: Removal of this zinc anode does not reduce the engines galvanic protection in the auxiliary sea-water circuit. The removal of the anode is adaptable back to the first production of the listed engines.
The change is effective at the factory with the engine serial numbers that are listed in Table 1.
