Introduction
The problem that is identified below does not have a known permanent solution. Until a permanent solution is known, use the solution that is identified below.
Problem
Piston rings were installed incorrectly at the factory. The top two piston rings are installed upside down. Installation of these cylinder packs will lead to high oil consumption, increase blow-by, and possibly broken rings, which can cause engine damage. This issue is only related to remanufactured cylinder packs that are sourced in the United Kingdom which are marked with an origin "E". Cylinder packs from the United States and China are not affected. The affected cylinder pack part number are listed in Table 1.

Location of information on packaging label |
Inspection of the packaging label is necessary in order to determine suspect cylinder packs. The suspect date code range is from D01M11Y11 (1 November, 2011) thru D14M02Y12 (February 14, 2012). Refer to Illustration 1 for location of information on packaging.

When these cylinder packs are being installed or prepared for sale, inspection of the piston ring orientation must be performed in order to ensure that the rings are installed correctly. If the inspection reveals that piston rings are installed incorrectly, the rings must be removed, and oriented properly. Refer to Illustration 2 for the proper orientation of the piston rings.
Note: The rings must be oriented 120 degrees apart The rings in Illustration 2 are oriented for illustration purposes only
