Display Module - Replace
Prior to the replacement of the ECM, ensure that replacement of the ECM is absolutely necessary. The ECM is seldom the cause of a failure. Always check that the power is available to the ECM.
- Turn the key start switch and the disconnect switch to the OFF position.
- Remove the ECM.
- Make sure that the replacement ECM has the correct part number.
- Connect the machine harness to the ECM.
- Install the replacement ECM.
- Turn the disconnect switch and the key start switch to the ON position.
- Determine if the ECM has been programmed or if the ECM has not been programmed. Connect the Caterpillar Electronic Technician (Cat ET) to the diagnostic connector of the machine. Cat ET will communicate with the ECM. Refer to Testing and Adjusting, "Display Module - Flash Program".
Note: The display for the Caterpillar Object Detection System is the only ECM that can be flashed. The radar ECMs cannot be flashed.
