Cat® Detect Object Detection System Caterpillar

MID 134 - CID 3336 - FMI 04

Usage:

793B 1HL
Conditions Which Generate This Code:

This diagnostic code becomes active when the power supply voltage of the right rear upper medium range object detection sensor is less than 9 VDC.

Note: The input voltage for the 12/24V power converter will determine the output voltage that is provided to the object detection sensors. Ensure that the charging system of the machine is operating correctly prior to performing this procedure. A charging system that is malfunctioning will cause this diagnostic code and other voltage-related diagnostics.

System Response:

Cat Detect is disabled. The system will reactivate when the power supply voltage for the right rear upper medium range object detection sensor climbs to 10 VDC. The status indicator for the system will illuminate red.

Test Step 1. CHECK FOR POWER RELATED DIAGNOSTIC CODES FOR THE OTHER OBJECT DETECTION SENSORS

  1. Engage the parking brake.

  2. Turn the disconnect switch and the key start switch to the ON position.

  3. Start the engine.

  4. Verify that none of the diagnostic codes that are listed in Table 1 are active.

    Table 1
CID 3329 Medium Range Object Detection Sensor #1 Power Supply
CID 3330 Medium Range Object Detection Sensor #2 Power Supply
CID 3331 Medium Range Object Detection Sensor #3 Power Supply
CID 3332 Medium Range Object Detection Sensor #4 Power Supply
CID 3333 Medium Range Object Detection Sensor #5 Power Supply
CID 3334 Medium Range Object Detection Sensor #6 Power Supply
CID3335 Medium Range Object Detection Sensor #7 Power Supply
CID 3336 Medium Range Object Detection Sensor #8 Power Supply

Expected Result:

None of the diagnostic codes that are listed in Table 1 are active.

Results:

  • YES - None of the diagnostic codes that are listed in the table are active. Proceed to Test Step 2.

  • NO - Multiple diagnostic codes that are listed in the table are active. Proceed to Test Step 3.

Test Step 2. CHECK THE POWER TO THE RIGHT REAR UPPER MEDIUM RANGE OBJECT DETECTION SENSOR

  1. The disconnect switch and the key start switch remain in the ON position.

  2. Take the following measurement at the connector for the right rear upper medium range object detection sensor. Use the 7X-1710 Multimeter Probe in order to measure the voltage between contact 4 (C569-YL(Yellow)) and contact 1 (C234-BK(Black)).

Expected Result:

The voltage measurement is 12 ± 3 VDC.

Results:

  • YES - The voltage measurement is 12 ± 3 VDC.

Repair: The right rear upper medium range object detection sensor may have failed. Try to reset the power to the Cat Detect by turning the key start switch and the disconnect switch to the OFF position and then turn the disconnect switch and the key start switch to the ON position. If the diagnostic code is still active, replace the sensor.

    STOP

  • NO - The voltage measurement is less than 9 VDC. Proceed to Test Step 3.

Test Step 3. CHECK CAT DETECT HARNESS FOR SHORT TO +BATTERY

  1. Turn the key start switch and the disconnect switch to the OFF position.

  2. Disconnect the 4-pin connector from the 12/24V power converter.

  3. Take the following measurement at the 4-pin connector of the Cat Detect harness for the 12/24V power converter. Measure the resistance between contact 3 (C569-YL(Yellow)) and contact 1 (C234-BK(Black)).

Expected Result:

The resistance measurement is greater than 5000 ohms.

Results:

  • YES - The resistance measurement is greater than 5000 ohms.

Repair: The harness is correct. The 12/24V power converter has failed. Replace the 12/24V power converter.

    STOP

  • NO - The resistance measurement is less than 5 ohms.

Repair: The output circuit in the harness is shorted to the +battery circuit. Repair the harness or replace the harness.

    STOP
