NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

(1) Magnetic plug

  1. Park the machine on a hard, level surface. Run the engine at idle.

  1. Remove magnetic plug (1). Drain the oil into a suitable container. The magnetic plug will help remove any ferrous material from the oil. Clean the magnetic plug and sump screen at every oil change.

  1. Tighten the plug to 130 ± 20 N·m (96 ± 15 lb ft)

  1. Remove oil to cooler port, 030-7950 Elbow (3) and pump suction screen (2) from the area shown in Illustration 2.

  1. Use a brush to clean pump suction screen, or 368-8410 Strainer (2) and reassemble into the transfer case.

  1. Tighten the fitting for the pump suction screen (2) to 130 ± 20 N·m (96 ± 15 lb ft).

  1. Remove fitting for the oil level port (4) to view the oil level. Refer to Illustration 2.

  1. Fill the transfer gear and case with 75W-90 gear oil.

  1. Verify the oil level at plug (4). The oil level should be flush with the threads.

  1. Start the engine. Run the engine at idle for a few minutes.

  1. Repeat Step 8. The transfer case will take approximately 3.8 L (4 qt) more to fill the cooler and lines.

  1. Repeat Step 9.

  1. Tighten the plug (4) to 130 ± 20 N·m (96 ± 15 lb ft).
