Capacitors and Current Feature

Table 1

Input Capacitor per Phase     Output Capacitor per Phase
C in nominal     C out nominal
300kVA     1 x 300µF     2 x 400µF
400kVA     2 x 200µF     2 x 500µF
500kVA     2 x 300µF     3 x 400µF

Without Supply Check

Sub-Assembly Visual Check

  1. Check for the presence of liquid traces on the exterior of each capacitor. Refer to Illustration 2 for examples of good and bad capacitors.

  1. Check that the power connection terminals are straight, even, parallel, and tight. Refer to Illustration 2 for examples of good and bad capacitors.

  1. Check the expansion area for expansion and distortion. Refer to Illustration 2 for examples of good and bad capacitors.

  1. Check the capacitor value with an ohmmeter. (OK with C= C nonimal +/- 5 percent )

  1. Make a short circuit on the capacitor to discharge the capacitor. Check the capacitor with an ohmmeter. The measurement must be greater than 1MW charge. When you reverse the polarization of the ohmmeter the value change less than - 1MW.

Current value chart

Measurement Conditions :

  • AC NORMAL = 400V 50Hz

  • Inverter = 400V 50Hz

  • Q5N = open (sans charge / without load )

Note: The measurements values have to be the same on each phase

Note: Table 2 gives the full capacitor current value

Table 2
INPUT CAPACITOR CURRENT per PHASE     OUTPUT CAPACITOR per PHASE
    PFC (in manual mode)
    OFF     ON
300kVA     23A     60A     76A
400kVA     30A     76A     98A
500kVA     46A     122A     135A (1)
( 1 ) In this case: if only one capacitor is faulty, the current will be around 118A (and not 135/3)

Inverter-AC Bypass Sub-Assembly Check

Sub-Assembly Visual Check

  1. Check for traces of arcing or the presence of a short-circuit.

  1. Check the power connections.

  1. Check the plug-in connectors.

  1. Check for the presence of dust on the circuit board.
