UPSB220 Uninterruptible Power Supply Caterpillar

Input Power - Test

Usage:

UPSB 220 JFA

------ DANGER! ------

Failure to connect the unit to a suitable grounding electrode creates an electrical shock hazard. An electrical shock will result in serious personal injury or death.

High voltage levels are present within the UPS. The UPS should be opened only by service personnel that are qualified. The UPS must have a proper ground connection to earth.

------ DANGER! ------

High voltage is present. Work on this equipment must be performed by authorized trained personnel. Personnel must be wearing Personal Protective Equipment that meets regulatory requirements to protect the body for the work that is being performed. Failure to use appropriate PPE to protect the body will result in serious personal injury or death.

Personal protective equipment (PPE) suitable to the work being performed must be worn when performing maintenance on the UPS.

------ DANGER! ------

Working with electrical circuits is hazardous and exposes personnel to electrical potential. To ensure safe operation, personnel must be trained in proper operating procedures. Bodily contact with electrical potential will cause serious personal injury or death.

Note: In the following steps, power will be applied to the UPS. Depending on the installation configuration, power may be applied to the load bus and the downstream load centers. Ensure that the customer is prepared for energizing the UPS.

Note: If there are any issues with the input power, open the disconnect for the upstream branch to the unit UPS.

------ WARNING! ------

Performing maintenance inspections with power supplied to the UPS may result in serious personal injury or death. When using an external maintenance bypass, the UPS can be fully de-energized. When using an internal maintenance bypass, the UPS is not fully de-energized. Refer to the Building System Schematic to ensure that all necessary precautions have been taken before performing any maintenance procedure. Use lock out and tag out procedures as required.

----------------------

The following test will verify that the upstream power is properly configured for the unit. This test will also verify that the upstream power is properly delivered to the unit.

When an external maintenance bypass cabinet is present, verify the following:

  1. Obtain authorization or have the customer close the disconnects for the upstream branch.

  1. Verify that the UPS isolation, bypass input, and maintenance bypass feeds are in voltage and phase synchronization. An example of the synchronization is phase A to phase A, B to B and so on.

  1. Verify that the phase rotation for power at the MAINS 1 (Q1) and MAINS 2 (Q4S) input terminals is ABC clockwise.

  1. Measure the line to line voltage at the line side of either the bypass input switch, maintenance switch, or the UPS input terminals.

  1. Verify that the line to line voltages are correct and balanced for the rating of the equipment that is being serviced.

Request to have the electrical contractor or the electrician for the customer perform changes if any changes are required. If corrections are performed, repeat the previous steps to confirm the corrections before proceeding.

NOTICE

Do not proceed until the upstream branch voltages are confirmed as being correct for the UPS ratings and installation.
