Engine Shutdown Override Occurrence

Usage:

C27 EGG
Use this procedure in order to troubleshoot the following engine event.

Table 1
Engine Events
J1939 Code and Description  Conditions Which Generate the Code  System Response
971-31 Engine Derate Switch  The engine shutdown override switch is activated while any engine derate is active.(1)  The code is logged.
The Electronic Control Module (ECM) will suspend any request to shut down the engine from the shutdown switches.
1237-31 Engine Shutdown Override Switch  Any of the engine shutdown switches are activated while the engine shutdown override switch is active.(1)
Note: Activation of the shutdown override switch will not disable an engine shutdown that is initiated by an engine overspeed condition.
(1) This code can be activated by a request from the control panel over the CAN data link to perform the associated task.

Probable Causes

Engine Shutdown Override Switch

  • Activated engine shutdown override switch

  • Faulty circuit for the engine shutdown override switch

Recommended Actions

Note: The procedures have been listed in order of probability. Complete the procedures in order.
