Blowby yang berlebih dapat menyebabkan kondisi pencemaran atau penyumbatan pada komponen berikut:
- Filter untuk sistem Ventilasi Karter Tertutup (CCV, Closed Crankcase Ventilation)
- Turbocharger
- Aftercooler
Piston atau ring yang rusak dapat menyebabkan tekanan di karter terlalu besar. Kondisi ini akan menyebabkan engine beroperasi dengan kasar. Jumlah asap (blowby) yang berasal dari breather karter akan melebihi batas normal. Breather kemudian dapat mengalami pembatasan dengan cepat, sehingga menyebabkan kebocoran oli di gasket dan seal yang biasanya tidak akan mengalami kebocoran. Blowby dapat juga disebabkan akibat pengarah katup yang aus atau seal turbocharger yang gagal.
