Battery Service

Usage:

UPSB 130 XTC

------ WARNING! ------

All lead-acid batteries contain sulfuric acid which can burn the skin and clothing. Always wear a face shield and protective clothing when working on or near batteries.

----------------------

------ WARNING! ------

Batteries give off combustible gases which can explode. A spark can cause the combustible gases to ignite. This can result in severe personal injury or death.

Ensure proper ventilation for batteries that are in an enclosure. Follow the proper procedures in order to help prevent electrical arcs and/or sparks near batteries. Do not smoke when batteries are serviced.

----------------------

Batteries should be serviced by personnel that are knowledgeable of batteries and the precautions that are required for the safe handling of batteries. Keep unauthorized personnel away from batteries.

When the time comes to replace the batteries, use the same model and the same manufacturer of the original batteries.

Note: Always recycle a battery. Never discard a battery. Return used batteries to an appropriate recycling facility.

The following precautions should be observed when you are working with batteries:

  • Remove watches, rings, or other metal objects.

  • Use tools with insulated handles.

  • Wear rubber gloves and boots.

  • Do not lay tools or metal parts on top of batteries.

  • Disconnect the source that is charging the battery prior to connecting or disconnecting battery terminals.

  • Determine if the battery is inadvertently grounded. If the battery is inadvertently grounded, remove the source of ground. Contact with any part of a grounded battery can result in electrical shock. The probability of such shock will be reduced if such grounds are removed during installation and maintenance.
