Improved Starting Performance

New primary fuel filters and fuel filter bases are now available. The new fuel filters have several improvements that will improve starting. The new fuel filters improve starting by utilizing an internal stand pipe. The stand pipe addresses the following issues.

• Air migration

• Intermittent hard starting

• Start and stall conditions

Additional robustness was added with the positive seal between the filter and the base at the mounting stud. If your engine has a primary fuel filter that is mounted below the transfer pump you will have improved in starting performance.

Adaptable To: Table 1 lists the part numbers for the new fuel filters. The D-Ring seal is shipped with the new fuel filters. The seal helps identify the newer fuel filters. Illustration 1 shows the new filter and the D-ring seal. The new filters are a direct replacement for the old fuel filters. The new fuel filters are adaptable to the engines that are listed above. The engines that are listed above have a primary fuel filter that is mounted parallel to the fuel transfer pump or mounted below the fuel transfer pump.

Note: Use the same part number of the new version of fuel filter base. The part number is 280-2698 Filter Base.

The fuel filter base has also been improved. The new fuel filter base reduces the inlet restriction to the transfer pump. Less restriction results in better engine performance.

Improved Engine Performance

Improved engine performance can be realized by reducing the inlet restriction to the transfer pump. Excess inlet restriction can reduce fuel density to the fuel injectors. This yields a reduction in power. Also utilizing a primary fuel filter that is not high flow could result in a lower performance or a reduction in power as well.

Note: The new fuel filters must be used with the new fuel filter base to optimize performance.

A D-ring seal that is packaged with the filter is a quick indicator of the latest 256-8753 Water Separator and Fuel Filter As. Both fuel filters offer the same filtration and flow performance.

Note: The 256-8753 Water Separator and Fuel Filter As will fit both versions of the 280-2698 Filter Base .

The latest version of the 280-2698 Filter Base (4) has an improved radius on the fuel inlet and an extended stud. The former 280-2698 Filter Base (5) uses the D-Ring seal, that is now shipped with the fuel filter. The former base (5) can use both the internal seal and the D-Ring seal that is packaged with the filter. Neither seal will have negative results. On the new base (4), the extended stud forms a seal with the internal fuel filter. The D-ring seal is not necessary with the new version of the fuel filter base.

Table 2 shows the benefits of using the new fuel filter and the fuel filter base.
