The article "New Cylinder Head Gasket Helps Prevent Oil Leakage Around Gear Pocket" in October 29, 1984 Service Magazine, gave information on a new gasket for D348 Engines. Put a mark through that article and make reference to this article.
A new 4W7598 Cylinder Head Gasket and a new 4W7435 Spacer Plate Gasket are now available as direct replacements for the former 7N9527 Cylinder Head Gasket and the former 7N9525 Spacer Plate Gasket on D348 Engines.
The new cylinder head gasket has a rubber, multiple bead insert which helps prevent oil leakage in the area around the gear pocket.
The new spacer plate gasket has an application of gasket compound 0.075 ± 0.025 mm (.0295 ± .0098") thick, around the gear pocket for an improved seal.
The new cylinder head gasket and spacer plate gasket are in effect on D348 Engines, as shown in Chart A.
New cylinder head gaskets and new spacer plate gaskets are also available for parts service replacements on D346 and D349 Engines. These gaskets are made the same and are adaptable as shown in Chart B.
