Caterpillar High-Gloss And Medium-Gloss Enamels

Caterpillar High-Gloss Paint is a pure, synthetic solvent enamel suitable for interior or exterior use on earthmoving, construction and material handling equipment, trucks, engines, machinery and metal buildings. This enamel is formulated to produce a finish that sets up in minutes, is tack-free in a few hours and dries overnight to a hard, glossy film that is very resistant to fading, chalking, cracking and chipping. The enamel may be applied directly to either wood or metal without using a primer.

Caterpillar Medium-Gloss Paint is an alkyd resin enamel formulated to produce a durable and scuff-resistant finish that sets up in minutes, is tack-free in a few hours and dries overnight to a hard finish. It has excellent coverage and dries to a smooth, self-leveled film. It is suitable for equipment requiring outside durability. The enamel may be applied directly to metal without using a primer.

Caterpillar Black Muffler Paint

Caterpillar Black Muffler Paint is specifically formulated to withstand temperatures up to 540°C (1000°F). It is an ideal coating for mufflers, exhaust stacks, boiler fronts and can be used on patio lights and barbeque grills. Caterpillar Black Muffler Paint has a built-in rust preventive which will prolong life of the coating and is almost unaffected by sunlight and extreme changes in temperature.

Caterpillar Yellow Primer

Caterpillar Yellow Primer is a pure synthetic, lead-free rust-inhibitive primer sealer that has excellent adhesion and durability. It will dry tack-free in a few hours and overnight to a hard durable coating with excellent weather resistance. It should be recoated with enamel paint. As a shop primer, it can be exposed for longer periods before the finish coat of paint is applied, because it has unusual weather resistance. Bare metal surfaces must be clean and free from all grease, dirt, rust, scale, moisture and other foreign substances before the primer sealer is applied. Effective methods of cleaning a metal surface are through a metal treating process, sand blasting, wire brushing, scraping or buffing.

Caterpillar Paint And Decal Remover

Caterpillar Paint And Decal Remover quickly removes paint, decals, varnishes, lacquers, enamels, shellac and synthetic finishes from wood and metal without damaging the surface. It is formulated to be used as sold; no further dilution is required. It will not damage natural fiber cloth such as cotton, wool, or silk. Care should be exercised when removing paint from plastic. Certain plastics may be attacked by solvents present in Caterpillar Paint And Decal Remover.

Caterpillar Paint And Primer Thinner

Caterpillar Paint And Primer Thinner has a high degree of solvency for any synthetic base coating and is an excellent solvent with almost any type of coating except lacquer. It leaves the film quickly and will not impair the setting-up or tack-free time of even the fastest-drying synthetic enamel or primer. Because of its high solvency, a relatively small amount of Caterpillar Paint And Primer Thinner is needed to reduce paint to a spray consistency. The danger of over-thinning is minimized. The thinner evaporates fast and is less likely to cause sagging or running. It is important to remember that excessive thinning may cause the paint to lose gloss and hiding power.

Caterpillar Paint And Primer Thinner With Retarder

It is important to remember that excessive thinning may cause the paint to lose gloss and hiding power.

Caterpillar Water Reducible Paint is specifically formulated to meet stringent air pollution regulations. It may be reduced with water if necessary for spray application. This enamel is formulated to produce a finish that sets up in minutes, is tack-free in a few hours and dries overnight to a hard, glossy film that is very resistant to fading, chalking, cracking and chipping. The enamel may be applied directly to either wood or metal without using a primer.

Recommended Paint Reduction And Application Procedures

Air Atomized Spray:

1. Mix paint thoroughly.

2. For small parts:

A. Use 20 parts paint to one part reducer, or as needed, with Caterpillar Paint and Primer Thinner. Stir paint while adding reducer.

B. Use 280 to 415 kPa (40 to 60 psi) of air pressure.

C. Use sufficient fluid pressure to properly atomize paint.

3. For large equipment:

A. Use 20 parts paint to one part reducer, or as needed, with Caterpillar Paint and Primer Thinner. Stir paint while adding reducer.

B. Use 280 to 415 kPa (40 to 60 psi) of air pressure.

C. Use sufficient fluid pressure to properly atomize paint.

D. To minimize overspray, start application on uppermost part of equipment, applying a dust coat and wet coat before going on to the next section of equipment.

Airless Spray:

1. Mix paint thoroughly.

2. For small parts:

A. Use 20 parts paint to one part reducer, or as needed, with Caterpillar Paint and Primer Thinner. Stir paint while adding reducer.

B. Use 8300 to 11 000 kPa (1200 to 1600 psi) of air pressure at the spray gun.

C. Recommend 0.28 to 0.33 mm (.011 to .013") tip with a 150 to 300 mm (6 to 12") fan pattern.

3. For large equipment:

A. Spray as is, no reduction necessary under normal conditions. If reduction is needed, use 20 parts paint to one part reducer (Caterpillar Paint and Primer Thinner with Retarder). Stir paint while adding reducer.

B. Use 8300 to 11 000 kPa (1200 to 1600 psi) of air pressure at the spray gun.

C. Recommend 0.33 to 0.38 mm (.013 to .015") tip with a 200 to 330 mm (8 to 13") fan pattern.

D. To minimize overspray, start application on uppermost part of equipment, applying a dust coat and wet coat before going on to the next section of equipment.

NOTE: For optimum results, touch up or recoat within 8 hours. When needed, 180 grit or finer sandpaper should be used.
