A New Turbocharger is Now Available{1000, 1052, 5510} Caterpillar

Engine:

C7 (S/N: C7S500-5312)

C9 (S/N: C9S500-722)

Introduction

This Special Instruction explains the installation of a new turbocharger on the above listed engines. Do not begin the procedure until you have read the information that is contained in this instruction.

Procedure for the C7 RV

The new groups that are added for this change are 285-3864 Clean Gas Induction Control Gp (2) and 290-0541 Turbocharger Gp (1) .

1. Loosen the turbocharger oil lines, the jumper tube, the CGI oil lines, and the elbow for the turbocharger compressor outlet.

2. Remove the turbocharger and the CGI valve.

3. Replace the old bracket with the new bracket.

Note: The air valve and the jumper tube are loosened in order to do the update.

4. Assemble the decoupled turbocharger (4) .

5. Tighten the venturi air lines (5) onto the engine.

(6) Coupler

6. Install the CGI Valve on the engine. Install the coupler (6) onto the engine.

7. Tighten the oil lines back to the turbocharger. Tighten the oil lines to the actuator.

Procedure for the C9 On-highway and RV

Refer to the following for the components that are changed or added.

• Turbocharger

• CGI Valve

• Coupler

• CGI Bracket

Note: The difference between the C9 On-highway engine and the C9 RV is the oil lines for the CGI.

Note: The bracket for the CGI on the C9 is new.

1. Loosen the turbocharger oil lines, the jumper tube, the oil lines for the CGI, and the elbow for the turbocharger compressor outlet.

2. Remove the Turbocharger and CGI Valve.

3. Replace the four bolts with 9X-2098 Taperlock Studs .

4. Install the new CGI bracket.

5. Assemble the decoupled turbocharger (3) on the engine.

6. Assemble the turbocharger (3). Tighten the oil lines.

7. Assemble the jumper tube to the CGI valve, the elbow, and the compressor outlet.
