The problem that is identified below does not have a known permanent solution. Until a permanent solution is known, use the solution that is identified below.

Steering cylinder may experience oil leaks from the rod seals on machines listed above. This issue may be due to presence of casting porosity in the U-cup seal groove of the cylinder head.

Solution

Caterpillar is aware of this problem, and is recommending the following interim solution.

If leaks or repeat leaks are seen in the head and rod seal area, inspect the head carefully including the seal grooves and lands for missing material. If defects are found, replace cylinder head as per the parts listed in Table 1 for the respective machines.
