Usage:
All Caterpillar Products With Diagnostic Connectors
One or more 6T2217 or 3T1393 Resistor Assemblies may be found on the above products. These resistors are used to protect certain wires, because there is no fuse or circuit breaker to provide protection to that wire, in the event the wire becomes grounded during operation.
One resistor assembly is located in the wire that goes from the positive post of the starting motor (not the solenoid) to the diagnostic connector. This resistor assembly is usually located near the starting motor.
Another resistor assembly may be found in the wire that goes from the battery side of the disconnect switch to the diagnostic connector. This resistor is usually mounted near the disconnect switch.
The resistor assemblies will not hinder the function of the 6T2150 Starting/Charging Analyzer, a Caterpillar Service Tool, or have any effect on the operation of the starting motor. Caterpillar products with dual starters have resistor assemblies on each starting motor.
