Improved Shut-Off Solenoids For Engines Equipped With Sleeve Metering Fuel Systems{1259}

Usage:

3208, 3304 and 3306 Engines in All Applications

Description of Change: Electric shut-off solenoids with a single (one) coil design are now used on the above engines. The former solenoids were dual (two) coil design with contacts to disconnect the pull-in coil when the solenoid plunger was in the energized (activated) position. Corrosion of these contacts can cause the pull-in coil to be activated at all times. The result was possible overheating of the pull-in coil and failure of the solenoid. Electric shut-off solenoids with a single coil design do not have contacts or the problems of corrosion and failures caused by corrosion.

Adaptable As: The new solenoids are direct replacements for the former solenoids with dual coil design, except for engines equipped with Woodward governors. The new solenoids can not be installed on engines equipped with Woodward governors. Some of the dual coil solenoids are still available for parts replacement on these engines.

INSTALLATION: Electric shut-off solenoids for 3208 Engines are put in the energized to run position only. On 3304 and 3306 Engines, solenoids can be either energized to run or energized to shut-off, according to which shut-off group the engine is equipped with.
