--------------- END SUPPLEMENT ---------------

Description of Change: New water passage seals are used in the cylinder head groups on the above engines and machines. They seal the water passages between the cylinder head and cylinder block. The new seals are made from Ethylene Propylene Diene Modified (EPDM) rubber with a nylon insert. The former water passage seals were made from silicone rubber with a brass or stainless steel insert. The former seals could take a permanent set when they were exposed to steam in the cooling system. This could result in coolant leaks. The new EPDM rubber seals have much better resistance to steam and will help reduce coolant leaks. Oil contact with the new EPDM rubber seals must be avoided because they are not as resilient to oil as the former silicone rubber seals.

NOTE: Be sure the new EPDM rubber seals DO NOT come in contact with oil. The EPDM rubber seals will swell and soften in proportion to the amount of oil they are exposed to. Oil contamination from handling or assembly can cause the new seals to deteriorate. This could result in coolant leaks.

Adaptable As: The new EPDM rubber water passage seals are direct replacements for the former seals in the above engines and machines. The chart shows the applications and part numbers of the new and former water passage seals.
