Caterpillar Mini Cutting Torch Available {0678}

Usage:

Caterpillar now offers a mini cutting torch which requires only a supply of oxygen to burn the metal. Using a type of rod known as an exothermic rod, the cutting temperature is about 5540°C (10,000°F). With these rods, the inside burns faster than the outer wall, producing a shroud effect and a much hotter burn. Compressed oxygen, at the same pressure as with an oxyacetylene torch, is supplied through a hose to burn the special rods and help achieve this high temperature.

Some uses of this light weight torch are:

... Cuts through all types of materials, including concrete.

... Cutting off bolt heads or piercing lengthwise through the bolts.

... Cutting through the welds for removal of bucket tooth adapters.

... Removing hard facing.

Its advantages are:

... High speed-saves time.

... No noise.

... Contains no carbon.

... Easy to clean the burned surfaces.

... The temperature of the parent metal at the cut area is not raised more than 150 to 205°C (300 to 400°F).

The various parts of this torch are listed in the chart, and most are shown in the accompanying illustration.
