Schematic of the Cat® Data Link |
This diagnostic code is recorded when the Implement ECM is not receiving the correct Product ID from the Advisor display.
The possible causes of this diagnostic code are listed below:
- Software is installed on the Implement ECM that is not correct.
- Software installed on the Advisor display is not correct.
- Incompatible software may be installed.
- The fuse for the Implement ECM may have failed.
Note: If the Advisor Display is not operating correctly, refer to UENR2421 for information on troubleshooting the Advisor Display. Ensure that the diagnostic code is active before performing this procedure. Check the Advisor Display for correct operation before performing this procedure.
System Response:
- Implement ECM features will not work properly. This fault must be cleared and the ECM reset before normal Implement ECM functionality can begin.
Test Step 1. CHECK THE IMPLEMENT ECM FOR THE PROPER SOFTWARE VERSION
- Use Cat® Electronic Technician (Cat ET) in order to verify that the correct version of software is installed.
Expected Result:
The correct version of software is installed on the Implement ECM.
Results:
- YES - The correct version of software is installed. Proceed to Test Step 3.
- NO - The correct software is not installed.
Repair: Flash the correct software to the appropriate ECM. Cycle the keyswitch in order to initialize the new software. Ensure that the diagnostic code is no longer active.

Test Step 2. CHECK THE ADVISOR DISPLAY ECM FOR THE PROPER SOFTWARE VERSION
- Use Cat® Electronic Technician (Cat ET) in order to verify that the correct version of software is installed.
Expected Result:
The correct version of software is installed on the Advisor Display ECM.
STOP
Test Step 3. RECHECK FOR DIAGNOSTIC CODES
- Ensure that the diagnostic code is active.
Expected Result:
The diagnostic code is inactive. The diagnostic code indicator is inactive.
Results:
- YES - The diagnostic code indicator and the diagnostic code are inactive.
Repair: Clear the diagnostic code.
STOP
- NO - The diagnostic code is active.
Repair: Ensure that the correct software is installed before replacing the ECM. If the software is correct, the Implement ECM may have failed. An ECM failure is unlikely. Exit this procedure and perform this procedure again.
Prior to replacing an ECM, always contact your dealerships Technical Communicator for possible consultation with Caterpillar. This consultation may greatly reduce repair time.
If the Implement ECM was recently replaced , the Advisor Display may have failed. An ECM failure is unlikely. Exit this procedure and perform this procedure again.
