Improvements For Caterpillar 3161 Governors{1264}

Usage:

All 3508, 3512, 3516 Engines So Equipped

Description of Change: All production Caterpillar 3161 Governors have been improved to increase service life and performance. All Caterpillar 3161 Governors have droop linkage components with increased hardness to provide minimal droop change at high service hours. Self-threading bolts in the cover and base are no longer used. Instead, the cover and base have drilled and tapped holes so that bolts can be used and tightened to standard torque.

Excessive wear is reduced and service life is improved on the speed control shaft for lever type governors (nongenerator set). The improvements were made by increasing the hardness on the shaft and improving the bearing. In addition, fluctuations in speed drift, due to temperature changes, have been reduced by a material change to the governor spring.

Improvements to options for Caterpillar 3161 Governors were made to the fuel ratio control and the rod guide of the pneumatic speed control. The fuel ratio control is now piloted and has increased hardness. These changes minimize sideways motion of the control and provide improved ability to hold settings at high service hours. Improvements to the rod guide of the pneumatic speed control have reduced wear and increased service life.

Adaptable As: These improvements are in effect from first production on the governor groups as listed: 4W7248, 4W7269, 7W4963, 7C83, 7C84, 7C98, 2W4375, 2W280, 4W7245, and 4W7246.
