Flywheel Housing With 6° Offset Transmission Mounting Holes Must Be Used In GMC Trucks{1000,1157}

Usage:

3208 Naturally Aspirated Truck Engines ( 32Y, 51Z, 62W)

The above 3208 NA Truck Engines in GMC Trucks are installed in the frame at a slight angle. This angle is about 6° counterclockwise (CCW) as viewed from the rear. The flywheel housing on these engines has two sets of mounting holes for the transmission. One set of holes is offset 6° in a clockwise (CC) direction so the transmission will still be installed in a vertical (0° angle) position. See illustration.

The lower flywheel housing must be used on 3208 NA Truck Engines in GMC Trucks.

Most Remanufactured engines DO NOT have the set of offset mounting holes. Therefore, before you install the transmission, inspect the flywheel housing on the former (original) engine, and compare the transmission bolt hole pattern with that in the flywheel housing on the Remanufactured engine. It may be necessary in GMC applications to use the housing from the former (original) engine on the Remanufactured engine to be sure the transmission is positioned vertically. Failure to do this will cause binding of the transmission linkage because the transmission would be rotated about 6° CCW.

NOTE: If the flywheel housing is changed for any reason, install a new crankshaft seal group.

Also, because the engine is slightly rotated, the dipstick that comes installed on the Remanufactured engine will not be correct in GMC applications. Instead, use the guide tube and dipstick from the former engine.

As soon as available, a Special Instruction form will be packaged with all Remanufactured 3208 NA Truck Engine Arrangements calling attention to these two special requirements.

There may also be other differences between the flywheel housings or engines. Carefully read the Special Instruction that comes with each Remanufactured engine arrangement to determine all the differences between the engine being replaced and the recommended Remanufactured engine.
