Multiple steer position sensors are required for correct operation of the steering control. The steer position sensors are located in the Speed / Direction Handle. Each sensor provides an input signal to the Machine ECM that will indicate the position of the steering control handle.
The FMI 13 is activated when the ECM has determined that the Steer Position Sensor 1 needs calibration.
Note: Before performing this procedure, verify that no other active CID 1471 diagnostic codes exist for the sensor. If any other diagnostic codes are active for the sensor, correct the problem before performing this procedure.
Test Step 1. CALIBRATION
- Perform the calibration procedure for the sensor. Refer to Testing and Adjusting, KENR8558, "Steering Operator Control - Calibrate".
Expected Result:
The calibration procedure was performed successfully.
Results:
- YES - The calibration procedure was performed successfully. Resume normal machine operationSTOP
- NO - The calibration was not successful.
Repair: Repeat the calibration procedure for the sensor. If the second calibration procedure is not successful, replace the Speed / Direction Handle. After the handle is replaced, refer to the Testing and Adjusting, KENR8558, "Steering Operator Control - Calibrate". If the problem is still present after replacement and calibration of the new sensor, the ECM may have failed.Prior to replacing an ECM, always contact your dealerships Technical Communicator for possible consultation with Caterpillar. This consultation may greatly reduce repair time. If the cause of the diagnostic code is not found, replace the ECM. Refer to Troubleshooting, "Electronic Control Module (ECM) - Replace".
