Note: A service light located at the rear of the machine will alert the service personnel to the presence of an event. Then, the service personnel can download the available diagnostic information.
Note: Your machine may not be equipped with the optional features that are described in this topic.

Action Lamp (1) - The action lamp is on the gauge cluster. |
Illustration 2 | g02549118 |
Float (2) - This status indicator is illuminated when the float mode is selected. |
Torque Converter Lockup Clutch (3) - This indicator is illuminated when the torque converter lockup clutch is enabled for the second speed range. |
Throttle Lock (4) - This indicator is illuminated when the throttle lock is enabled. |
Reduced Rimpull (5) - This indicator is illuminated when reduced rimpull is activated. |
Implement Lockout (6) - This indicator illuminates when the implement lockout is set. When the lockout is set, the lift, tilt, and auxiliary functions, cannot be moved with the Implement Controls. |
Parking Brake (7) - This indicator is illuminated when the parking brake is engaged. |
Steering System (8) - This indicator is illuminated when there is a loss of primary steering system oil pressure. |

Hydraulic Oil Temperature (9) - The gauge indicates the temperature of the hydraulic oil in the hydraulic oil sump for the implement circuits. If the gauge needle enters the red zone the hydraulic oil temperature is excessive. The Advisor panel will display a warning. Increased temperatures will sound the warning alarm. If necessary, reduce the load that is on the machine until the hydraulic oil temperature decreases. |
Engine Coolant Temperature (10) - The water temperature regulator regulates the coolant temperatures. If the gauge needle enters the red zone the coolant temperature is excessive. The Advisor panel will display a warning. Increased temperatures will sound the warning alarm. Continued operation of the machine during the sounding of the warning alarm or the gauge needle in the red zone may damage the engine. Stop the machine in a safe place and investigate the cause. |
Engine Speed (11) - The tachometer indicates the engine rpm during operation. |
Fuel Level (12) - The fuel level gauge indicates the amount of fuel that remains in the fuel tank. A gauge needle in the red zone indicates a low fuel level. |
Torque Converter Oil Temperature (13) - The gauge indicates the temperature of the oil in the torque converter. If the gauge needle enters the red zone the oil temperature is excessive. The Advisor Panel will display a warning. Increased temperatures will sound the warning alarm. If necessary, reduce the load that is on the machine until the torque converter oil temperature decreases. |
NOTICE |
---|
Running out of fuel can cause engine damage. Do not continue to operate the machine when critically low on fuel. |

The digital display window (14) provides readouts that show the following items:
- Operational hours (service hours)
- Selected gear and direction
- Engine Speed or Ground Speed
Service Hour Meter - This display indicates the total operating hours of the engine. Use the display in order to determine the service hour maintenance intervals.

Truck ID (15) - This button will activate the Truck ID selection screen. This button will light up while the Truck ID selection screen is active.
Zero (16) - Zero/tare the payload system when prompted by the Advisor display, or when there is additional need to do so such as accumulation of material stuck in the bucket. This button will light up briefly when pressed to acknowledge selection.
Clear (17) - This button allows the current bucket load to be excluded from payload memory. This button may be pressed multiple times to clear all bucket loads since the last time that the store button was depressed. The payload screen will update to reflect that the payload information has been cleared. This button will light up briefly when pressed to acknowledge selection.
Reweigh (18) - This button allows the user to reweigh the current bucket load. This button will light up briefly when pressed to acknowledge selection.
Delay (19) - This button will activate the Delay selection screen. This function may also be accessed by selecting "Delay" from the Payload main menu. This button will light up while a delay code is active (including auto-delay).
Digital display area (20) - The Advisor system shows information on this digital display area.
Scroll up/left (21) - This button is used to scroll up through information that is shown on the display area. The button can also be used to scroll to the left through information that is shown on the display area.
Scroll down/right (22) - This button is used to scroll down through information that is shown on the display area. The button can also be used to scroll to the right through information that is shown on the display area.
Previous (23) - Use this button to return to information that was previously shown on digital display area (15).
Main menu (24) - Use this button to return to the main menu.
OK (25) - After you have made selections with the scroll down/right button (17) and with the scroll up/left button (16), use this button in order to confirm those selections.
For detailed information on the Advisor system, refer to System Operation, UENR0787, "994H Wheel Loader Vital Information Management System (VIMS)".
To ensure the proper operation of the monitoring system, check the system daily.
The battery disconnect switch must be in the ON position.
When you turn the engine start switch key from the OFF position to the ON position, the monitoring system will perform an automatic self-diagnostic test.
The self-diagnostic test verifies that the outputs (gauges, alert indicators and alarms) are operating correctly.
When you turn the engine start switch key to the ON position, the following systems are tested for approximately one second: alert indicators, gauges and LCD displays.
The gauges must go to the far right positions. All alert indicators must come on momentarily. All segments of the LCD displays must come on momentarily. The action alarm must sound.
The Caterpillar Monitoring System notifies the operator of an immediate problem with a machine system or an impending problem with a machine system. The Caterpillar Monitoring System provides four warning categories. The categories are based on the severity of the problem. The categories dictate the required response of the operator.
WARNING OPERATION | |||||
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Warning Category | Warning Indications(1) | "Operator Action Required" | "Possible Result "(2) | ||
"Alert Indicator Flashes " | "Action Lamp Flashes" | "Action Alarm Sounds " | |||
1 | X | No immediate action is required. The system needs attention soon. | No damage will occur to the machine. Minor reductions in machine performance may occur. | ||
2 | X | X | Change machine operation or perform maintenance to the system. | Severe damage to components can occur. | |
2-S | X | X | X(3) | Immediately change the machine operation. | Severe damage to components can occur. |
3 | X | X | X(4) | Immediately perform a safe engine shutdown. | Injury to the operator or severe damage to components can occur. |
(1) | The active warning indications are marked with an X. |
(2) | This is the possible result, if the operator takes no action. |
(3) | The alarm is on continuously. |
(4) | The alarm is on intermittently. |
For all warning categories, the Advisor will display a warning message and the Advisor will display a suggested action.
