(1) AC Filter Capacitors |
There are two banks of AC Filter Capacitors located in the Controls Cabinet. One set is connected to the output side of the K3 Inverter Contactor and one set is connected to the output side of the K4 Inverter Contactor.
The filter capacitors are used with a filter inductor to filter the high frequency PWM voltage.
These capacitors are located in the middle of the cabinet. Refer to Illustration 1.
Removal
- Perform steps in the Systems Operation, Testing and Adjusting, "Internal Component Preremoval Steps (Controls Cabinet)" in order to de-energize the system and gain access to internal components.
- Remove the three K4 phase cables that are connected to the front of each fuse (F37- F39) by loosening the three nuts that hold the cables to the fuse of the front capacitor tray.

- Remove the two signal wires from each of the three fuse indicators. Cut tie-wraps as needed.
- Remove the four bolts that hold the tray to the cabinet. One at each of the four corners of the front capacitor tray.
- Remove front tray from cabinet.
- Remove the three K3 phase cables connected to the front of each fuse (F34- F36) by unscrewing the three nuts that hold the cables to the fuse of the rear capacitor tray.
- Remove the two signal wires from each of the three fuse indicators.
Cut the tie-wraps as needed.
- Remove the four bolts that hold the tray to the cabinet. One at each of the four corners of the rear capacitor tray.
- Remove rear tray from cabinet.
Installation
- Position the rear capacitor tray on the Controls Cabinet shelf.
- Secure the tray to the cabinet with four bolts. One at each corner.
- Attach the two signal wires to each of the three signal indicators.
Refer to Systems Operation, Testing and Adjusting, RENR7654, "Filter Fuse, Fuse Status Indicator and Discharge Resistor".
- Attach the three K3 phase cables to the front of fuses F34-F36. Use a small belleville washer on the nut side.
- Tighten the phase cable lugs to 95 N·m (70 lb ft).
