Procedure for Installing Strut Assembly for the Left Hand Armrest on Certain D7E TTT{7307, 7312}

Introduction

This Special Instruction will explain the procedure to install a strut assembly on the left-hand armrest on certain D7E TTT.

  1. Loosen and remove the adjustment knobs (1) and washers (2) for the armrest pad and remove the armrest pad (3) from the left-hand control group.

  1. Remove and retain the four screws (4) and remove and retain the outside cover (5) from the left-hand control group.

  1. Remove the four screws (6) from the bottom pod cover (7) and remove the bottom pod cover.

  1. Remove the top pod cover (8) using the following procedure.

    1. Loosen the tiller clamp screw (9) and pull up on the tiller handle (10) to remove the tiller.

      Tiller handle removed and unplugged

    1. Unplug the tiller handle harness from the pod assembly and remove the tiller handle (10) .

    1. Remove the screw (11) from the center of the horn button (12), and remove the button part of the horn button.

    1. Push up the park brake switch (13) through the pod cover and disconnect the electrical connection. Set the switch aside.

    1. Remove the four screws (14) that attach the bracket assembly to the top pod cover (8) and remove the top pod cover (8) .

  1. Remove the left hand upper trim panel (15) using the following procedure.

    1. Remove the screws (16), disconnect the electrical connection, and remove the HVAC control unit (17) .

    1. Remove the seven screws (18) that retain the left hand upper trim panel (15) and remove the trim panel.

  1. Remove the eight screws (19) from the left hand lower trim panel (20) and remove the lower trim panel.

  1. Remove the cable straps (21) that secure the harness to the chain links on the left-hand side plate. Move the harness down out of the way.

    (A) 15.5 mm (0.61 inch)

    (B) 12.5 mm (0.49 inch)

    (C) 37.5 mm (1.48 inch)

    (D) 60.5 mm (2.38 inch)

    (E) 13.5 mm (0.53 inch) diameter holes

  1. Drill three 13.5 mm (0.53 inch) (E) diameter holes in the left-hand side plate at the following location.

    1. Measure over 15.5 mm (0.61 inch) (A) from the front edge of the pre-cleaner relay connector and down 12.5 mm (0.49 inch) (B) from the top edge of the pre-cleaner relay connector. Drill a 13.5 mm (0.53 inch) (E) diameter hole.

    1. Measure over 15.5 mm (0.61 inch) (A) from the front edge of the pre-cleaner relay connector and down 37.5 mm (1.48 inch) (C) from the top edge of the pre-cleaner relay connector. Drill a 13.5 mm (0.53 inch) (E) diameter hole.

    1. Measure over 60.5 mm (2.38 inch) (D) from the front edge of the pre-cleaner relay connector and down 12.5 mm (0.49 inch) (A) from the top edge of the pre-cleaner relay connector. Drill a 13.5 mm (0.53 inch) (E) diameter hole.

  1. Drill two 6.8 mm (0.267 inch) (K) diameter holes in the adjuster group casting.

    1. Measure from the front edge of the casting 24 mm (0.944 inch) (F) and up 65.5 mm (2.578 inch) (H) from the bottom edge of the casting where the bracket is bolted. Drill a 6.8 mm (0.267 inch) (K) diameter hole.

    1. Measure from the front edge of the casting 102 mm (4.015 inch) (G) and up 65.5 mm (2.578 inch) (H) from the bottom edge of the casting where the bracket is bolted. Drill a 6.8 mm (0.2677 inch) (K) diameter hole.

    1. Use an M8x1.25 tap and tap both holes (K) .

  1. Install three 180-3748 Threaded Insert into the left-hand side plate following the procedure outlined in, NEHS0677, "Tool Operating Manual".

  1. Install the 363-7769 Cradle Support Assembly to the adjuster group casting with two 7Y-9099 Screws and to the side plate with three 7Y-9099 Screws .

  1. Modify the top pod cover (8), bottom pod cover (7), lower trim panel (20), and the outside cover (5) of the control group as follows:

    1. On the left-hand side of the top pod cover (8), extend the relief that is present. The extended relief must clear the strut in all positions of travel.

    1. On the left-hand side of the bottom pod cover (7), extend the relief that is present. The extended relief must clear the strut in all positions of travel.

    1. On the left hand lower trim panel (20), cut a relief large enough to clear the strut.

    1. On the outside cover (5), cut a relief large enough to clear the strut.

  1. Use two cable straps to secure the harness to the chain links on the left-hand side plate. Refer to Illustration 12

  1. Install the left hand lower trim panel with the eight existing screws. Refer to Illustration 11

  1. Install the left hand upper trim panel with the seven existing screws. Refer to Illustration 10

  1. Plug in the electrical connector and install the HVAC control unit into the left hand upper trim panel with the existing screws. Refer to Illustration 9

  1. Install the top pod cover with the existing four screws. Refer to Illustration 8

  1. Install the park brake switch and plug in the electrical connector. Refer to Illustration 7

  1. Install the button for the horn button with the existing screw. Refer to Illustration 6

  1. Plug in the electrical connector for the tiller handle. Install the tiller handle on the tiller shaft. Tighten the set screw in the tiller handle to secure the tiller handle. Refer to Illustration 45

  1. Install the bottom pod cover with the existing four screws. Refer to Illustration 3

  1. Install the outside cover for the left-hand control group with the existing four screws. Refer to Illustration 2

  1. Install the armrest pad and secure the pad with the two adjustment knobs. Refer to Illustration 1
