Machine Preparation

  1. Park the machine on a smooth level surface.

  1. Place the transmission control in the NEUTRAL position.

  1. Lower the bowl to the ground.

  1. Engage the parking brake.

  1. Shut off the engine.

  1. Place blocks in front of the wheels and behind the wheels.

  1. Allow only authorized personnel on the machine. Keep unauthorized personnel off the machine and in clear sight of the operator.

  1. Disengage the parking brake.

Testing and Adjusting Procedure

    (A) Disengaged dimension for the parking brake. (1) Starwheel. (2) Access hole. (3) Brake drum. (4) Lever. (5) Splined shaft. (6) Bolt holes for the brake drum.

  1. Remove eight bolts (6) that hold brake drum (3) on to the drive shaft yoke. This allows rotation of brake drum (3) for correct adjustment.

  1. Access starwheel (1) through access holes (2). Rotate starwheel (1) until the brake shoes press against the brake drum. The brake shoes must cause enough drag so that the drum (3) cannot be rotated by hand. Then rotate starwheel (1) in the opposite direction by 12 clicks.

  1. Push up on lever (4). Dimension (A) is measured from the centerline of lever (4) to the bottom mounting hole of the bracket assembly for parking brake actuator. Dimension (A) equals 56 ± 15 mm (2.2 ± .6 inches).

Note: In order to adjust lever (4), remove lever (4) from the splined shaft (5). Rotate lever (4) about splined shaft (5) in order to achieve dimension (A) .

  1. Install eight bolts (6) that hold brake drum (3) on to the drive shaft yoke.

  1. Without applying pressure to actuator (7), adjust rod (9) to equal dimension (B). Dimension (B) equals 95.0 mm (3.74 inch).

The parking brake is in the DISENGAGED position.

  1. Remove the dust cover and connect tooling (C) to the test port.

  1. Start the engine. Operate the engine until actuator (7) is fully pressurized. At this pressure, rod (9) fully extends.

Note: The parking brake should be in the DISENGAGED position for the next step.

  1. Make a final adjustment of the length of rod (9). To adjust, push up on lever (4) so that the cam for the parking brake contacts the brake shoes. Rotate yoke (10) in order to allow installation of clevis pin (12) into yoke (10), and lever (4) .

  1. Install cotter (11) in clevis pin (12) .

  1. Engage the parking brake by releasing the hydraulic oil pressure in parking brake actuator (7). Check dimension (B). Dimension (B) must be greater than 85.0 mm (3.35 inches).

ReferenceFor more information on testing the parking brake, refer to Testing And Adjusting, "Parking Brake - Test" for the machine that is being serviced.
