Coolant Temperature Sensor - Remove and Install

Removal Procedure


NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.



NOTICE

Keep all parts clean from contaminants.

Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.


Note: The coolant temperature sensor is located in the water temperature regulator housing.

  1. Drain the coolant from the cooling system to a level below the coolant temperature sensor into a suitable container for storage or disposal.

  1. Disconnect harness assembly (1) .

  1. Remove coolant temperature sensor (2) .

  1. Remove the O-ring seal from the coolant temperature sensor.

Installation Procedure


NOTICE

Keep all parts clean from contaminants.

Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.

  1. Install a new O-ring seal on the coolant temperature sensor.

  1. Install coolant temperature sensor (2) and tighten to a torque of 20 ± 5 N·m (15 ± 4 lb ft).

  1. Connect harness assembly (1) .

  1. Fill the cooling system with coolant. Refer to Operation and Maintenance, "Refill Capacities" for the cooling system capacity.
